The Brookville Area School District will be getting a larger than expected increase in state funding this year. At last night’s board meeting, it was announced that the district will receive a 5.5 percent increase overall in its basic education subsidy. That’s the largest allowable under the state budget. While it also had cuts in its allocations for special education and the accountability block grant, Brookville still came out with a net increase of 3 percent or nearly $50,000 above what it budgeted locally. Because of the increases, Brookville has now gone three straight years without having to raise taxes.

Two juveniles are accused of stealing computer equipment from Brookville High School. According to Brookville Borough Police, two juveniles broke into the school on Friday. The computer lab was the main target of the robbery, as 28 laptop computers, four digital cameras, a projector, and a computer tower were taken. The total value of what was stolen has been valued at $28,000. Police were able to discover the identities of one of the thieves thanks to the shoes that they had on. Further investigation led police to the other juvenile involved and the location of the stolen property. Police haven’t released the names of the two involved due to their age.
